Areola Restoration Tattoo

Areola restoration tattooing is a paramedical tattoo procedure designed to recreate the appearance of the areola following breast suregery, reconstruction, or mastectomy.  Using carefully blended pigments and advanced tattoo methods, this treatment can restore the visual balance of the breast and help many clients feel more complete after their surgical journey.

You May Benefit From This Treatment If You Have:

  • Undergone breast reconstruction following a mastectomy
  • Experienced changes to the areola after breast surgery
  • Scarring where the natural areola was removed or altered
  • Completed breast reconstruction and wish to restore the appearance of the areola

How the Treatment Works

Areola restoration tattooing uses carefully layered pigment to recreate the shape, tone, and visual depth of a natural areola.  By blending multiple pigment tones and using paramedical tattooing methods, the treatment can create a realistic appearance that complements the surrounding skin and reconstructed breast.  At times, your artist may recommend completing a series of inkless scar revision treatments prior to the areola restoration tattoo to prepare the skin, especially in cases of previous radiation therapy or larger existing scars.

Consultation Requirement

A consultation is recommended prior to treatment so we can evaluate the skin, discuss your goals, and determine the most appropriate approach.  During this consultation, we will review your surgical history and ensure the area has healed sufficiently before beginning the tattoo process.

Healing & Results

Healing time varies depending on the condition of the skin and the extent of the treatment.  Some clients may require more than one session to achieve the desired color balance and depth.  As the skin heals and pigment settles, the appearance of the areola becomes softer and more integrated with the surrounding skin.

Important Considerations

For clients who have undergone radiation therapy or more extensive surgical procedures, the skin may respond differently to pigment.  In some cases, scar revision treatments may be recommended before areola restoration tattooing to help improve pigment retention and overall results.  Treatment can typically begin once the area has fully healed, your medical provider has cleared you for tattoo procedures and you are  at least 12 months post-radiation therapy.
